As we head out of the city, enjoy a peaceful morning drive through the picturesque coffee fields of Alajuela, where the day begins with misty mountains, cool breezes, and the scent of fresh coffee in the air—setting the tone for an unforgettable adventure.
Start your day at the renowned Doka Estate, a third-generation coffee plantation nestled in the fertile slopes of the Alajuela province.
On this guided tour, you’ll walk through lush coffee fields and visit the century-old processing plant, declared a Historical and Architectural Heritage Site by Costa Rica. Learn every step of the coffee-making process—from planting, harvesting, and sun-drying, to roasting the beans that create Costa Rica’s world-famous brew.
You'll also discover how volcanic soil and altitude create the perfect conditions for growing high-quality Arabica coffee. The experience ends with a fresh cup of Doka’s signature roast, surrounded by panoramic views of the Central Valley.
Next, we head to the majestic Poás Volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in Costa Rica.

The tour starts at 6:00 a.m. with hotel pick-up. The total tour duration is approximately 10 hours, returning to San José in the afternoon.
If the volcano is erupting or closed for safety reasons, the entrance fee to the park will be refunded, and the time spent at the other tour locations, like the Coffee Tour at Hacienda Doka and La Paz Waterfall Gardens, will be extended to ensure a complete and safe experience.
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing, sturdy walking shoes, sunscreen, a camera, and a light jacket, as the weather at the volcano can be cooler. Don’t forget your camera to capture the stunning views.
